Terminal 18

Terminal 18 completed a major expansion in the spring of 2002. T-18 is the Port's largest container terminal and one of the largest in North America. Redevelopment of adjacent property doubled the size of the terminal.

Financing of the $300-million expansion was provided by the sale of special facility bonds backed solely by lease payments. This saved the Port $60 million in capital capacity that can be used to help finance other important projects.

Expansion highlights include:

  • The addition of 90 acres (36 hectares) for a total terminal size of 196 acres (79 hectares)
  • Doubled intermodal container rail capacity - enabling cargo to be moved directly onto railcars for both UPRR and BNSF Railway
