Hire America’s Heroes- 2008 Symposium

The Port participated at the recent “Hire America’s Heroes- 2008 Symposium” that took place at Navy Base Kitsap-Bangor, with the theme “Last Mile Problem: Strategies for Success.”

Job seeking service members from all branches, the Reserve Corps and chain-of-command were invited to attend. The symposium helped transitioning military personnel connect with employers and learn about opportunities with veteran-friendly companies and organizations. Representatives and recruiters from various companies and organizations assisted and provided information to help those transitioning, identify transferrable skills and abilities sought by civilian employers. Participating companies and organizations also shared their best practices which was the ideal setting for the Port’s Veterans Fellowship Program as delivered by Gary Buchanan (pictured above on the left). Mark Coates, Port Aviation Operations, also presented, and current VFP participant (James Bunn) and past participant (Mark Stemann) sat on a panel giving their testimonials at the symposium.
